Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery is a medicinal course which imparts to students the knowledge of healing properties of the Ayurveda. Ayurveda finds its roots in India and traces back to the Vedic ages. Though many students opt for this stream, Ayurveda has a lot of scope for the development of the student. BAMS (Ayurvedacharya) Basic details-
Ayurveda is a branch of alternative medicine. The term ‘Ayurveda’ stands for Science of life! It is a mode of treatment that is inspired by natural cure for ailments. This science actually originated in India. Its roots can be traced back to the Vedas! BAMS course is designed to train students to get familiar with concepts of Ayurveda and make use of them to treat patients.
Ayurveda mostly focuses on natural cures as well as lifestyle changes to cure ailments. The course covers those topics in detail and helps train students to use those very solutions to solve modern-day diseases also!
In the first year, non-clinical subjects are taught. In the second year, subjects like Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Charaka and Toxicology are taught. Some important subjects taught during third year are- Pathology, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Pediatrics. Some important subjects taught during the last one and a half years are- Ayurvedic Surgery, Panchkarma and General Medicine. The last year is dedicated to Internship.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission in BAMS

Only 12th Science stream, Biology group students are eligible to apply for this course. In most cases, the minimum marks criteria for admission is 50% marks in the 12th Board examinations.

First of all, getting admission to a BAMS college is relatively easier, when compared to other medical courses like MBBS! When it comes to MBBS seats, the competition is cut-throat and there is a limited number of Government College seats available.

Role of NEET Exam for BAMS

A candidate must clear NEET exam in order to be

Eligible for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses for a particular academic year in case of General, General-EWS, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain a minimum of marks at 50th percentile in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) to Undergraduate Medical Courses held for the said academic year.
However, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks shall be at 40th percentile. In respect of candidates with Benchmark, Disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks shall be at 45th percentile for Unreserved Category & GEN-EWS Category candidates and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates.
The percentile shall be determined on the basis of highest marks secured in the All India common merit list in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses
